Connecting RGB led strips to MOBO's rgb_header [ASUS Prime Z270]

Hi guys,

Yesterday I realized that my motherboard Asus Prime Z270a has aura sync and I connected two*5m led strips (both two connected to each other) to the rgb header. It's working and syncing perfectly and I used them for a long time. The led strip comes out of the computer from the back and goes all around my room.

Both led strips were connected to a 12v power supply before, and now just to the rgb header.. I am quite a dummy in electricity, so I don't know if my Motherboard can fry or something...

Do you guys think it's fine just to have this 10m led strip connected directly to the mother board or is it risky to do it? What should I consider?

Thanks in advance..

It's to do with the amount of power the strips require, if your mobo puts out eg: 24 Watts that's 12v @ 2amps if your strips need 12v @ 800ma each it's not a problem. If they need 12v @ 1.1 amps you will draw too much current which will overheat the regulator and shorten its life and cause it to fail. As long as your under the mobo specs for the RGB power it's ok. (It's a bit more complicated once you factor in length and voltage drop etc but if you stick to under 90% of the rated wattage on the mobo you should be fine)

Thank you very much for your answers. I really appreciate it.

I'm not at home at the moment, but how can I check how many amps the leds need? Is it written maybe?
