Hello!

I am about to finally get an rtx 3090 for rendering purposes. I was using two 980ti since they had been released.

I was powering these 2 cards with 2 cables which has dual 8 pin connector at the tip (each 980ti had 2 8pin inputs)

So, evga rtx 3090 has 3 8pin inputs. I was wondering, can I still connect rtx 3090 with my old setup by leaving one of the 8pin heads empty

Or I could use just one of the cables for two of the 8pin and cancel the other one and purchase a new cable with a single 8pin head

Or, I can cancel all of those cable and I can purchase 3 different 8pin cables with single head.

I am using FSP Aurum 1200w PSU so I should have enough slots to do all these options.

Thank you for your suggestions upfront!

Kind regards.

Yes you can use your old setup, the GPU shouldn't have any issue running that way.

I personally use 3 separate cables with 1 connector a piece to my 3090, although I have CableMod sleeved cables so there's no extra splitters dangling in the case. But that's just an aesthetic choice, it's not required to be like that.

If you do get custom cables please make sure they are compatible with your PSU. The pin-outs of the cables differ by manufacturer and an incompatible cable absolutely will damage or destroy your equipment. If you're ok with the extra connector in the case I'd leave it as is.

oh! thank you for the cable advice. I didn't know this. I was planning to get another 3090 in the future than I need to replace all my cables, I will consider this advice than and moving on with my old setup for single card.

Thank you^^
