Connecting Smart TV to Home Theater System

I am having major problems connecting my Samsung UN46H7150 Smart TV to my Onkyo HT-S5300 7.1 Home Theater System. Would someone be able to go through this step by step with me? I have been trying to connect this for several days now.

TV should have an optical output on it, connect that to the input on the Onkyo, go into the TV options and turn off the onboard speakers and have it use the optical out.

I only have HDMI cables, do I need a different kind of cable to connect the optical output?

You need the optical audio cable. Should be a TOSLINK cable with these connections
