Connecting two Win 7 PCs via USB 3.0

Hi, I need to transfer a large amount of information from one of my PCs to another. I wasn't even aware of it, but both PCs have USB 3.0 ports. I bought a m/m USB 3.0 cable and I want to use it to transfer the files between computers. How do I do this? I simply checked the network tab in file explorer, found my other PC and connected to it, and I am only getting 15kBps, which is ridiculous, so I know I did something wrong. Any advice? I have to move between 200-300GBs and I may have to do this more than once (thinking of buying a surface pro 3) so I'd like to find the most efficient way of doing this.

Why wouldn't you use LAN/Ethernet? No router?

How do you connect to the internet? Both PC's at once?

Regardless of how you link the 2 PC's, you will not get the "rated" connection speed anyhow! I once had thread in here about copying via Ethernet, and not even getting 10Mbps, via 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN and router connections.

I was under the impression that file transfers would be quickest via USB 3.0. What is the best way of doing what I need to do? I have two routers, the better one is a wireless N, not sure of the exact model or make. I have and can make ethernet cables, I have a roll of cat5e and ethernet fittings, but like I said, I was under the impression that it would be fastest with USB 3.0.

It's not some much how you connect to copy, it's the copy itself.

Whenever you copy to/from a HDD, that is the slowest part!

There is a lot of "overhead" when copying to drives, even SSDs.
