Connecting VGA monitor to DVI video card

Hello,
I'm having an issue with my video card/monitor. I have a single monitor and it has only a VGA connection. My video card, on the other hand, has no VGA ports. In the past I used to solve this issue by using the VGA to DVI connector the video card came with (and it worked perfectly well) yet this connector was lost recently.

My video card is a Sapphire Radeon r7 260x. After checking the specs of the card (I believe) it has a DVI I port and after looking at it it has the 20 + 5 holes. I bought a connector that resembled the previous one I had (at least it looked like it) yet when I connected it the screen looks very dark and extremely blurry. Reading is nearly impossible.

I thought about getting another VGA to DVI connector but this time with 20+1 holes yet I don´t really know if this is a good idea and I am flying blind. Please help!

PS: The connector that came with the video card does not look like an active VGA to DVI connector (I´m guessing because the port is truly DVI-I) but double check this if possible.

Hi, It's most probably DVI-I (notice the extra 4 pins in DVI-I vs DVI-D). If DVI-D, there would be no signal.
"yet when I connected it the screen looks very dark and extremely blurry. Reading is nearly impossible"
It might be related to cable, monitor, or graphics card. I'd test different monitor, if possible.

It's a good thing to confirm its a DVI-I (according to what I´ve read it would be much easier to solve the issue)
I have tried disconnecting it from my video card (and unplugging the video card´s connection to the power supply) and connecting the monitor to the motherboard´s onboard video card. The monitor and the cable work flawlessly. Thank you for helping me rule that one off since it was a possibility I had not considered.
