I need help connecting XB270HU to my xbox/ps3.
XB270HU only has ONE displayport and 0 HDMI.

I know displayport supports audio but according to acer's website ( http://us-store.acer.com/xb270hu-bprz-wqhd-27-monitor ), this particular gaming monitor doesn't have ANY audio? What? My last monitor had both headphone & HDMI ports.

Does this mean I'm screwed and can't ever use this monitor for any consoles?

I tried googling forums and looked up all possible adapters...no luck.

That monitor doesn't come with speakers. It uses DP purposely to achieve 1440p @ 144Hz.

Out of luck there, maybe return it?

Consoles are refresh rate locked up to 60Hz so not sure what you had in mind for this monitor?

thanks for the answers guys. I decided to pry this thing off the A/V cables on xbox like this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urMqwjlMbcs and was able to use hdmi<>dp converter cable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YU36ZS for the video and A/V that I cut out with a AV/3.5jack adapter with my headset for audio.

Seems like this is a pretty common problem for console gamers that play on monitor especially ones with dp only. Also note that this problem is only for xbox 360 NOT ps3/ps4 or xbox one because those have an optical audio port. So roughly need to spend $20-50 extra just for all the adapters, a pain, but probably worth it if you want to play on a nice 22-27 inch monitor for competitive gaming.

Hope this thread helps those with this monitor :)

@boju I didn't plan on playing any console games on it, I use it for games like counter strike on pc & needed an upgrade for work/school purposes. I knew about no hdmi port, but didnt know about no 3.5 jack or absolute 0 audio support 🙁

In any case a converter one way or another wouldn't be practical, even if HDMI to DP was a thought, would need to keep in mind how to distribute digital sound along with a display only monitor. An AVR with HDMI in's and out's comes to mind maybe for an HDMI to DP adapter allowing the AVR to at least direct sound elsewhere but no idea how far potential technical problems would extend concerning HDMI and HDCP protocols, there would be problems + also being resolution/refresh rate restricted by the AVR. Going this route, i don't think you'd have any arms left haha.

There might be another way, maybe an AVR with Displayports soon to be released? I haven't seen any and highly doubt there will be given the overrated market dominance HDMI has.

Maybe a cheap 2nd 1080p monitor with the things you need might be an idea for console gaming.

Thanks for this reply I cancelled the DP to HDMI order and got HDMI to DP instead about $30 more, I will update this when I test it all out.

Tested the HDMI > DP

(description says "works with xbox/ps3"etc but in reality, it might work, but with other monitors. not this acer model.

Pretty much if you have Acer XB270HU you cant use it for any ps3/4/xbox360/1 console.
Changed the video resolution @console settings on regular tv to 1080p and even 720p before plugging it into adapter>monitor, no luck 🙁
