Within the last 2 weeks my internet on my pc has become unusable at times, streaming and gaming is extremely slow and I occasionally lose all connection.

- Motherboard is MSI 970A-G46
- PSU is corsair cx 600watt ATX
- Wifi adapter is Netgear N300 usb mini adapter
- Windows 7 Ultimate
- Router is technicolor TG582n
- My provider is Utility warehouse

I had been using a tncap usb wifi adapter for about 2 years before my connection started going funny, then the device stopped working about 2 weeks ago so I went and bought the netgear device but my connection problems carried on. My speedtests vary wildly most the time getting a good ping but terrible up/down, and when in game servers my connection will fluctuate from around 70ms to around 400ms to even over 1000 at some points (On Europe servers which should be fine), making it unplayable. My game ping is much higher than speedtest ping.

- I have tried changing the DNS settings to to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 but it made no difference.
- I temporarily fixed the problem by typing 'ipconfig /flushdns' into CMD, this would make my gameplay playable for about 5 minutes before the ping rocketing up again requiring me to type it in again. This no longer works.
- I phoned them up and did some tests and my internet seemed to be good enough to browse but gaming unplayable still.
- Other devices such as my brothers laptop and phone connected fine an yielded normal speedtest results.
- I have done AVG scans and malwarebytes scans which discovered 233 'whitesmoke' virus's or whatever it is, but they were quarantined.
- I've tried turning my firewall on and off without any effect.

I haven't tried connecting through ethernet because we only have one port and it's too far away, and even if it worked I cant have my computer lying around the front room or a long cable going through the house.

I just don't know what to do now, if anyone has any ideas please help, thanks.

Wireless is always going to be slower than Ethernet. I feel like a little USB wireless adapter isn't going to have a stable enough connection to game. (Especially if your going through walls) Have you looked at adapters like TP Link? They allow you to wire Ethernet through your existing electrical.

Edit: Especially wireless N. Faster speeds but doesn't do too well going through walls. I'm currently using a power line adapter and won't be going back to wireless.

I've been using a usb adapter for 2 years without problem (besides problems with providers), I know it's not ideal but it's the most convenient and I've had no problems up until now.

I clicked the WPS button on the usb device and I've had a usable connection but my ping still fluctuates into the hundreds quite often.

I phoned them again an they confirmed drops in the connection on the wifi, they said they would try and fix it by updating the firmware of the router. An hour later an my problems are persisting and as you see here the spikes have become more and more prominent since it was done earlier.
(IP has been blurred out)

First image shows the first spike after the 'fix', then the next 2 show the spikes increasing.

Please can someone help this is heavily affecting my browsing, the person on the phone also said nothing was wrong with the line.

It also just occurred to me that the IP I blurred out was googles so there wasn't much point but oh well too late now.
