To whome it may concern,

I just bought a new laptop, Asus gaming machine with windows8, it is connected to the modem, old WLAN modem on wireless, has full bars but it says no internet connection on the bottom right hand icon, in the same breath it says also limited connection when the side bar pops out. I have tried all the suggested stuff, nothing works.

Have you actually tried to open a webpage? Does it work?
Wire the laptop to the router / modem, does it get internet then?
If the router / modem is from your ISP, you need to CALL THE ISP NOT POST TO Tomshardware, only they can setup/walk you through how to use the wireless.

General steps if it is your personal router / modem, if wired connection works but not wireless first make sure how many wireless 'names' you see, do you have YOUR router/modem not a Neighbors (the other ones)?
Have you inputted the right password, all Wifi is supposed to be secure to keep your neighbor isn't hogging your internet on you (sort of like why you don't just leave yoru keys in the ignition of your unlocked car at night)?
If your password doesn't work, then access the admin table in the modem / router, turn off security, now try reconnecting, can you connect now with no security?
If still no then there is more problems here, most obvious your not familiar with how to connect to a wifi properly (training) and would best be served help by someone in person, to old modem/router needs to be replaced (broken).

It is maybe the router, if it is used frequently it might be full up with ipv4 adresses. A router can have up to 256 pc's max I believe, and might be set even lower.

This was the problem in the school I'm going to, and I asked the teacher to flush the router and, I got internet 😀

There is a auto flush on most routers, and maybe it needs to be every week or even day 😛

Hope it made you think about it 😉

BeeJay... That is not what happened, the problem was the DHCP pool was empty in your case, because someone didn't set up the expiration timing on the DHCP. If they properly set the router it would expire the DHCP every 8 hours max. That isn't the issue here, as the OP seemed to abandon the question.

Check your "Homegroup" options and run its troubleshooter. Most of the time it fixes that sort of problem. Oh, and make sure you pressed Fn+F2 to enable wireless on your laptop.

Do not post replies to NECRO posts. See the date? TWO years ago. Do you think the OP been waiting for 2 years for you post?
