connection issue with google and the word loading constantly appearing and not able to remove

I am being advised there is a problem connecting to Google (for over a week) and the word "loading" appearing across the tool bar which I can't remove. I can receive and send emails but can't open received emails and can't check if the ones I have composed have been sent as I can't open sent
