Firstly i'd like to thank anyone who takes the time to read this and give me any suggestions, i appreciate it alot.

So my problem is this. Every now and again i'll lose connection to my router, this happens completely randomly (although so far its only done it while playing games) and has gone weeks in between disconnects before.

I've tried pinging my router and i cant get a response it just times out. The only way i've been able to re-establish a connection is to reboot my computer. I connect to my router through a box that uses the mains electricity to connect to another box (sorry i don't know the actual name of those things) on the other side of the house. Because it happens randomly i cant try another computer because i could be sat there for weeks before it does anything. Also i have no control over my router, its all controlled by my stepdad who is under the impression master hackers are trying to get onto his computer at all times.

The computer itself is fairly new, i recently upgraded the RAM, CPU, MOBO and installed windows 7. All of this about a month ago.

My spec's are:

Windows 7 HP
Intel 3570k quad core 3.4GB
gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H mobo
XFX HD radeon 6950 2GB
8GB corsair vengeance 1600mz

I would really appreciate any help you guys can give. Its starting to drive me up the wall now and i don't have the slightest clue how to fix it.

Regards, Ryan.

Without having access to the router this could be a hard fix.

I would start by a simple reboot of the router/modem.

I would also do any updates windows 7 can offer and update your NIC card drivers from OEM website.

I had this exact same problem and found the drivers for my NIC card was failing and would shut off. Drove me nuts.

EDIT: is anyone else having any problems with the network?

I updated my NIC card when this started happening and it stopped for a few weeks, i assumed it was fixed but apparently not, the drivers are still up to date though.

Just installed a bunch of optional windows updates but im not sure any of them are going to help, they're mostly internet browser video stuff and plugins for my hardware.

Any other suggestions? i appreciate the help.

It won't let me edit my second post so ill just have to make a new one.

I'm the only one its affecting at the moment. My brother and stepdad are still connected when i lose connection and they don't get the problem at separate time to me at all.

what is your computers IP address when your internet goes down?

you can go to start > search > type CMD hit enter > type ipconfig hit enter.

Thought i would post how to. Im sure you know how but wanted to make sure :)

problem is. may have to wait the weeks it takes for this to happen to find out.

Just out of curiosity what does it mean if its changed? if it takes a long time to go down then knowing what to do in advance would really help.

Thanks.

Hey, I know that this thread is quite old, but I'm having the same problem. I just wondered if you have found the solution since then.
P.S. I checked my IP and it is different when I lose connection.
Thanks.
