Okay so I am new to the whole computer thing, and i put a lot of money into my first built PC. I got everything working on it ... except when I try to connect to the WIFI It says it is "limited", I tried every trick possible and looked to see if it's the drivers, but they don't seem to be the problem. I'm writing this on my laptop which is clearly connected perfectly fine so the internet provider is not an issue.

I am using a TP-Link 300mbps Wireless N PCI Adapter on windows 8.1 with an MSI gaming motherboard....If someone could help me ASAP that would be MOST appreciated.

Try opening up your command prompt on your computer and typing in "ipconfig".

Does it return a private IP address (ex: 192.168.x.x) or a Non-Routable IP (ex: 169.254.x.x) under your WLAN connection?

Also, what type of router are you using? Is it provided by your ISP, or is it one you purchased?

I am using an ARRIS router through Time Warner Cable. I haven't tried contacting them because again, all my other devises work perfectly.

As far as the IP goes, i see "Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi..... I also see "IPv4 Address", "Subnet mask", and "default gateway" which is the same as my IP.....you may notice that im clearly not familiar with these things...only bare basics, so i apologize.

A little update, i went to google chrome (It was already on the MSI motherboard) and it gave the sign in page but never went any further. So it seems that the internet is there however its not connecting through to it, i dont know if it may be the Network adapter or what...

I'll try to connect it through to the ethernet later downstairs (The home computer)

UPDATE AND SOLVED THUS FAR!

Yes so i was a complete...well..idiot for choice of nicer words.... so the problem was that i have this computer upstairs in my room, while the main computer and router is downstairs and in another room. So i brought the computer downstairs and it just seemed to be too far away, so im going to look into a new adapter and one that is stronger, but for now i will rearrange my room to find a new spot hopefully closer to the router.

Thank you for taking the time to read this anyone who came by with the same problem!
