Connection was Reset

Hi. I've been experiencing problems with my internet connection just today.

Some sites (specifically, online browser gaming and similar sites) that have been working since yesterday now come up with the "Connection was reset" error that we all dread. Note that it only happens on some sites, and some of these sites only experience it when I open certain pages of that site. The homepages are normally clear of this problem. The problem exists when I, say, try to play one of the games in the game sites. This also happens on several non-gaming sites.

I've tried everything. I've tried clearing history, cookies, and cache, readjusted my dns server to suggested servers, ran firefox on safe mode, flushed my dns on the command prompt box, reset my internet options on the control panel, installed the proper updates on my laptop, and it still does not work. I even tried switching to different browsers to see if it helps, but Opera and google chrome won't help me either. Any ideas?

First report connectivity problems to your ISP. See if they can find anything from their end.

Second, check all of the cables and connections into your location via modem, router, splitters/filters etc. whatevery you may have. Look for some loose connections, coroded splitters, damaged or corroded cables etc.. Probably not the problem but the ISP is likely to suggest or tell you the problem is on your end.

Do you have administrative access to your router? Check the logs if available and enabled. Router may be recording some connectivity losses.

Try running some pings, tracerts, and pathpings. See if some bottleneck appears in the networking/internet pathways. Traffic can take multiple routes and any given time so you may need to run the commands several times to identify some consistent issue.

That all said, it could be just some problems with the game sites themselves: Getting darker out early - maybe more people playing and performance degrades. There are cheats that people use - could be some of that occuring.

And people online shopping - it is that time of year also. So even non-game sites may be degraded.
