Connectors Question 4-pin in 8-pin

Yes but don't try anything over stock. It will also only fit in one way so make sure to line up the connector.

If you are talking of a Mb connector, you can plug a 4 pin 12 volt power cable into an 8 pin EPS motherboard connector but there's no guarantee that it will work, if the MB expect two +12 volts rails wont work.

- The 4 pin use +12v on pins 3,4 (tops at 192 watts)
- 8 pin 12 volt cable: +12v on 5,6,7,8 (tops at 336 watts)

Also as you give less than the maximun current capacity you can overheat both the motherboard connector and/or the 4 pin cable.

Thought so. Just in case, I purchased an adapter for it. But that means I can't finish building this computer for another week.

What cpu do you have? As long as your not overclocking and you don't have those power hungry cpus(amd fx 9xxx), its ok just to use 4pin in an 8pin mobo.

I have an fx 6300 and planned to overclocking it with dual fans. To maybe at least 4.5 ghz. I bought a 4-pin to 8-pin adapter to I should be good from there.

Don't overclock without buying a good quality PSU from the approved list.

Dont forget to conect the 2 4-pin to diferent lines of the PSU.

The PSU im using is 600 watts. I'll take your word for it, but are you sure I cant overclock it, not even a little bit? I also have a lian li dual power supply adapter to get up to 975 watts. No overclocking capability?

It was mentioned earlier that your motherboard will be trying to draw power from both inputs when you only have one connected. Depending on how many rails and amps/rail your psu can put out you could blow something if you try to OC.

All the current protection in the world won't save your pc from a surge generated from inside.

By all means run the system, but if you want to OC get a new PSU.

Always remember as soon as you do anything outside of 'Recommended Procedure' there is the chance to damage parts.
