Hi

Last weekend I deleted my hard disk to remove all the junk that was
slowing my system down. I've installed all my drivers and directX and
the vanilla Civ 3. However, when I try to install C3C I get "Unhandled
exception: Failed to load dll: Dsetup"

Anyone got any ideas????

Thanks

Rich

You *deleted* your hard drive??? You do know there are plenty of free
programs to get rid of the 'junk' that slows systems down?

Might check the atari technical FAQ or the technical forum at
http://civfanatics.com

Be sure to include system specs when asking for help w/ technical problems.

A friend had the same trouble with Asheron's Call, I can't remember the remedy but I know they went to the microsoft/windows website
and used search microsoft, type in the search .. dsetup.dll see what comes up, I'm sure thats where they found the solution.

Thanks for your help guys. I've found the solution!! It turns out that
error with dsetup.dll means that your cd is dirty and need to be
cleaned! I kid you not!

....and yeah deleting your entire hard drive is a bit of an
"etch-a-sketch" way to deal with your junk but it works! 🙂

Thanks again guys

That sounds crazy.

If you are going to a the level of a full re-install then a reformat
first is often better. I find that Windows will find the previous
installation even on a seperated drive and import it. That doesn't
make much sense if you are trying to start off clean. Of course a
reformat means you have to back up all your stuff first.

One place to look for junk running is in your registry. These two
keys are the best place too look:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Look up each entry on the web and see what it does. Each of these
entries will run something at startup. They might be critical parts
of the OS. But often times they are programs like RealPlayer, Winzip,
etc.
