Question Consensus on a fully loaded QLC only in regards to read speed.

Buying a large capacity ssd soon, I will only be using it for storing large sample libraries and potentially games, so only read based tasks.

I keep finding conflicting results specifically on read performance when a drive is full. Some say it tanks hard and others say only write speed will be affected. I will definitely be filling up the drive heavily, but again will only be using it mainly for streaming samples. Trying to avoid spending twice as much for a TLC nvme if I'm not going to be writing to it.

As long as the drive isn't used for swap files, read speed should be unaffected. Not like it stages anything through the flash.

Got it, so just to be redundant - I can fill it to the brim and not worry at all about read speed?

I have a NVMe that is nearly full, I I could check if read\write speed are affected by it being nearly full, I highly doubt that it would.

This is only in regards to QLC based nvme's and read speed but I always appreciate any testing!

Oh, I don't know if my 980 pro has QLC or whatever it's called, I had readup on all these things when I planned on purchasing my drive, but have long since forgotten what the specs are again.

I'm running a Samsung Magician Benchmark, now again with a full drive and although I don't have a screen capture of the drive's performance relating to it being full or empty I share my full drive performance with all.

Seems the write speed is a bit affected, had run Performance Test and those results on a empty had the write speed upwards from full drive a 1000Mb difference, but I don't know how Performance Test and Samsung Magician compare... maybe I'll run Performance test again just to check 100%.

Yes 980 is definitely a tlc drive

The '980' or 970 EVO are the more 'budget'-friendly options vs. the 980 Pro....

If you need massive amounts of space, prices go up quite rapidly above 2 TB...

This is a 980 Pro I have and it is definitely affected by being nearly full... 1000 on the write speed, but nothing on the read speed between full or empty.

Here you can see that the result is 29000 marks and when it was empty it is 38000 marks.

As too the question if SLC or QLC or TLC or MLC or whatever relates to better to full drive performance is probable for you to get one and test it out, and share it here, so that we can get a consensus on this topic.
