Define Liberal and Conservative. What do these words mean?
Liberal: a political ideology based on the principles of
libre, or 'freedom'. ( See Libertarian for another look.)
Liberals hold the belief that everyone should have equality and liberty as they choose.they believe in constitutionalism, liberty, the rights of a human being, free and fair elections, capitalism, and the freedom of religion.
Liberals also hold the idea of 'change'. You may have heard this word in the 2008 election, but in that case, it is not the same. Liberal change is not what Obama thought of as 'change'. Liberals hold the idea that if a system is impeding the rights of others, there must be a system of altering the original plan in favour of protecting individuals and the original plan,( in the US's case, the Constitution.)
***
Conservative: a political ideology based upon the principles of
conservare, or 'to preserve'. ( See Independent for another look.)
Conservatives hold the belief that everything set up or that is, has a purpose and that minimal to slow change is in favour over radical altering of original plan. ( Again, the OP is the Constitution.)
Conservatives also hold the idea of preserving tradition: Religion, ideas, politics, and economics. Called a 'Classical Approach', these ideas are what reflect in the US Conservative branch. Now, there are two identified Conservatives: Fiscal and Social.
Fiscal Conservatives hold the principles of classical economics and rely heavily on small to large enterprise to be controlling the economy through a quasi-regulated capitalist of fee-market society. They oppose heavy regulation in favour of free choice in business decisions. They also believe that the government or ruling system must not impose heavy tax burden on individuals, just as the liberal view expresses. FC's also hold that the government should not aid individuals and that individualism is what fuels a society, not social programs. ( See Independent and Socialism independently.)
Social Conservatives favour the freedom of religion and the separation of church and state. They also hold that all life has respect, from the fetus to the mother. They hold a belief that certain social practices are not moral, depending on the county of the SC's. They also hold the idea of individualism.
