1. What is your budget? Preferably around $500 or less, but variable depending on bang for buck, up to maybe $800 (this is total, including upgrades)
2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering? Prefer 17", but 15.6" or that range may (have to be) acceptable
3. What screen resolution do you want? Prefer 4k desktop capability (not for gaming res), but again as low as HD 1080 may (have to be) acceptable based on budget
4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop? Either
5. How much battery life do you need? The more the better
6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)? Yes, nothing to demanding however, probably medium settings for a mid-range game at the most.
7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.) Nothing productivity/workstation based, just Microsoft Office stuff and web browsing (I do tend to keep ALOT of open tabs however)
8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need? SSD only, but N/A other than the ability to support it (preferable NVMe)
9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links. Considering Amazon, Newegg, eBay
10. How long do you want to keep your laptop? Couple years.
11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ? None, have external USB
12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons. I definately do not like Compaq or Acer due to bad past experiences
13. What country do you live in? USA
14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
*The main reeason I came here to ask where to go is how I wish to go about this. Basically, I dont care about most of what's inside the laptop. I want a decent processor (i3 equivalent or better). Some kind of dedicated graphics is needed too (or at least the ability to add it myself). Integrated just won't cut it.
*Unless one is available with the kind of stuff I already want, I'd prefer to add my own upgrades to save $.
*With a larger budget for example, last Christmas I bought The least upgraded version of the appropriate laptop from HP, then added an extra stick of memory, Samsung m.2 SSD, etc as the result was better quality at a cheaper price than adding those (types) of upgrades at purchase. That's what I want to do with this, but at a much cheaper level.
*Short of sifting through hundreds of laptops on eBay or something, I dont know where to start.
*While I prefer new for warranty and reliability purposes, to save $ on this short-term laptop, I'm looking at used.
*I even have my own windows 10 key, so even an OS isnt needed.
edit: Been looking around more.. What's the point of bigger screen size (17 over 15 for example) when the resolution isnt higher? I'm seeing ****x900 resolutions on 17" screens, seems insane. If that's the case, 15" ish is fine.
