Here are my specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x (Stock Cooler)
Motherboard: Asus Crosshair VII (Wi-Fi)
RAM: 2x8gb G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3200 cl14
M.2: 970 EVO 256gb
PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra 850W Platinum

I'm using the Asus pg279q 165hz 1440p G-Sync Monitor.

I don't have a graphics card currently, everything else is built.

The 2080 ti won't be available to me until 10/8, and it's the founder's edition by Nvidia.

I'm strongly considering the asus rog strix 1080 ti triple fan at $720 from newegg (no tax), compared to the 1298.99 spent on the 2080 ti pre-order.

I've heard some complaints about coil noise on the 1080 ti, and the goal here is to hit 165 FPS on both r6 siege and pubg at ultra settings.

I need suggestions, as $1300 for marginal gains over the 1080 ti is making me a bit sick.

Running a steady 165 fps on PUBG on a gtx 1080 TI with ultra settings on 1440p with gsync enabled is not going to happen. You might be able to meet all of this with the RTX 2080 TI. You might get close with the RTX 2080 Ti but the benchmarks done and the statistic published on all reviews do not specify if the benchmarks are done with gsync enabled. However, I can tell you that its Not happening with the Ti. Maybe if you disable gsync, but that would ruin the entire purpose of owning a a gsync monitor. Gsync drops your frames by a substantial amount.

With Gsync enabled, You'll probably only max at about 50 - 100 frames on ultra settings, at 1440p, on a 1080Ti.

Without Gsync, you will probably hit your numbers. Might need to tweak your graphics card a bit.

If you really want to hit these numbers then get the 2080Ti. One 1080 Ti will not get you these frames at the settings you want to run things off of.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that G-Sync drops frames...but I agree with almost all of the rest of what you say.

I'm sure a 1080 ti will be enough for siege at 165fps, but probably not pubg, considering the lack of optimization and considering the facts...

However, a lot of benchmarks are done with all the visual qualities maxed out, which i'm certain I won't need for pubg and siege.

That's what makes this a toss-up for me. I want to have the system somewhat future-proofed, but I am having a difficult time justifying the cost. Not to mention, there's no RGB for the FE 2080 ti, and I missed my opportunity to secure an asus 2080 ti w/ rgb...it would be the only piece of my PC that doesn't have asus aura sync, and for $1300, that's upsetting.

Didn't mean like it dropped frames such as mid game. Having Gsync or Anti Anliasing enabled provides less frames per second. Smoother frames, but less frames. Well if your not trying to max out each setting and lower some settings such as distance, foliage, textures or whatever then you'll be okay with a gtx 1080 Ti. But if you got the money then RTX 2080 Ti is what you want. You'll be able to hit those higher FPS with it.
