Consistent Ping Spike Pattern on 2nd Hop and On

A few days ago I recently started encountering a ping spike issue that has been on and off for all the devices on my network. It's strangely very consistent happening exactly every 5-6 seconds.

I run a wired connection, and have tracert'd both akamai and google.com with the same behavior on the 2nd hop.

I'm on Verizon Fios and the model of my router/modem combo is the G1100

I'm also not sure if it's worth mentioning that the ping seems to build up to the spike, going from example numbers such as 5 -> 8 -> 10 ->12 -> 15 -> 150 and then back to a low number like 5 and repeats the cycle.

Solution
The 2nd hop is normally your ISPs router (unless you have multiple routers in the house). High latency to that router generally occurs for 1 of 2 reasons. The router itself is overloaded (or broken) OR your connection to your ISP (the line from your house to your ISP) is experiencing a problem. Unfortunately, these are both issues that your ISP has to resolve. I would start by calling them and asking them to run a test on the line. If they see something, then they may route a tech to your home. If the test does not show any problems it may be harder to get a resolution to this problem.
