Hi I just built a new rig and experiencing consistent freezing up of the entire machine (have to hard reboot) after 30+ minutes of gaming... It has also locked up shortly after start up without any gpu load.

I have monitored all temps and all are well within normal ranges for both the CPU and GPU.

MSI Gaming X GTX 1080
Windows 10 Home
CPU make and model: Intel i7-6800k @ 3.40 Ghz
Amount of system memory: Uhhh... I thought I had 16GB, but System Info is only showing 8GB

Motherboard BIOS version: E7882IMS.340 (v3.40)
GPU Driver : 368.39
Graphics card BIOS version NV336MH.180
Monitor(s) make and model: ASUS VS248

It is a fresh install. I made sure that it was up to date as far as updates are concerned.

A side note, anytime my computer goes into sleep mode, on the return from sleep mode it locks up every time.

This is the new broadwell chip. I don't believe it has integrated graphics. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I take out the gpu with this fact I won't see anything occurring on screen.

So initially I only had one RAM module installed and it was doing the same thing. Today I realized I hadn't seated the other ram in completely. Now with two, it is doing the exact same thing.

I have MSI afterburner up and it states that the Memory clock is at 5006... Core clock is at 1686. I have not touched any of the settings I just used this to monitor everything... Could these ranges be causing an issue ?

OK. Your suggestion to look at Afterburner made me look at other software that I downloaded that was available for the 1080... What I think was causing this was the MSI Gaming App. It could be Afterburner. I am going to keep testing, and report back exactly which one was causing the issue...

I ran a few benchmark tests and no crashes or freezes so far... I'll play a little longer then test afterburner.
