Hey all. I just opened up Norton after a few months of not looking at it (yes I know, I shouldn't use Norton), and I found a list of almost daily alerts of high CPU usage. here's what it looks like.

I'm running a machine with an i5 4690k, not overclocked, with a Hyper 212 EVO cooler. Also I'm running these games on a GTX 970. Is it normal to constantly have high CPU usage?

I even get it when running games like CS:GO at a lower-than-normal resolution (preference). I'm worried that I misconfigured something.

Any help/advice would be appreciated. I can supply further info should you need it.

It's perfectly normal to have high cpu usage when doing heavy cpu tasks like gaming. Norton's generically flagging it because by its assessment 'something' (it doesn't know a game from a virus in this regard, or intentional vs unintentional use) is heavily using the cpu. It could be seen as a red flag if for instance you weren't using a particular program but it was noted to have high usage, perhaps unauthorized access due to malware or some other bug.

That would be my guess for norton's behavior, I don't use it personally. Games will certainly make use of the cpu.
