Solution
ok well that puts a different slant on things certainly.

try going into msconfig, and going to the startup tab, uncheck everything and reboot.

This assumes that you are using windows. I have win7 and had some issues with avira antivirus on one of my computers. every other one I have was fine, but one configuration had serious stability issues

let me know how it works out. Cheers!

Most likely a hardware problem. Possibly a recoverable Graphics error. I had issues similar when my GPU ram started flaking out randomly. All it took was a removing the cooler and giving it a good dusting and re-apply of thermal paste to the GPU.

Hopefully helps, Cheers.

... im confused how the thermal paste being reapplied helped seeing as my gpu still was really moist but some how it worked, i think at least, it used to freeze on start up didnt this time though.

well in any case i will say back here if it locks up again.

(i am running windows 7 64 bit) alright usually i have 3 things on start up: Catalyst control center, steam, and AVG, but this started before i had gotten AVG so its not that, so its either steam or catalyst control center.
i have not frozen once, an while i cant be sure if it will later or not, my computer seems a bit snappier.
