The sound is either coming from my [strike]PSU or[/strike] GPU or motherboard. i have ruled out Optical drive, case fans and all Harddrives by unplugging them all

computer specs:
Cpu: I5 3570 (noctua fan)
motherboard: Z77 HD3 (if i remember correctly)
gpu: GTX 770 (dual fan EVGA SC)
PSU: [strike]750w single rail (cant remember name)[/strike] brand new psu installed to rule out PSU coil whine New psu is a Be Quiet! Dark power pro 11 1200w 4 rails (brand new just installed at 3:30pm CST)

The constant whine seems to be coming from the 8pin/6pin connector slot(s) on the gpu

The constant high pitch noise is driving me crazy
if you need more information i will attempt to get it

something i would like to add is on the task manager my (stock clocked cpu) is set to 3.40GHz and the maxspeed is 3.80GHz but i often see that speed go past 4GHz with only a 8-10% utilization it is sitting at 3.84-3.92GHz

I have solved the clunking sound but have yet to find out how to stop the whining of the gpu's 6 and 8 pin connector slot area (might also be inside the card and not the connector) the clunking sound seems to have been coming from my top case fan

Connect your monitor to the motherboard and check that you have a screen. I.e., no load on the gpu.

If the whine persists then remove the gpu.

If the whine is gone then the gpu is probably the cause.

However, I would more likely suspect the psu.....

You also might be able to unplug everthing from the psu and just turn on the computer power.

See if the psu whines - may not do so without a load.

I unplugged both monitors and plugged in the vga on the motherboard and restarted the computer and it didnt switch over to onboard video but i am getting a new noise which sounds like a fan speeding up and then slowing down again and speeding up again (wahing noise)

GPU is at a stable 26C
and
cpu1 26-30
c2 25-28
c3 26-28
c4 24-32
idle temps with only firefox open
seems like on msi afterburner my Fan Tachometer RPM says its going from 1320 to 1380 if that is even an audible difference
i'll try replacing my Power supply on monday any recommendation for a good replacement under $200 that will atleast rule out PSU if it isnt the problem

also inspected inside the case no wires touching any of the fans and there is nothing noticeable to me visually but tilting the case towards the motherboard seems to reduce the fan clunking sound by about 50% at a 10 degree angle maybe the GPU is warping and causing this somehow?

Fan bearings wearing and letting the fan wobble - clunks as it moves up against something at start up .....? Tilting the case slows the movement - tip the case the other way and see if the clunk is the same.

Power supplies can whine just due to the electronics etc., involved. Usually high, shrill, increases to the audible annoying level with age.

Not sure that I would replace the psu unless you know that it is old, and/or overloaded or close to being overloaded. But, if so, buy quality and maybe some extra wattage. Quality meaning known manufacturers with good product reviews. Especially if you are familar with them.

Opening the case changes the accoustics and other noises can become "dominant".

We have "tested" fans by using a non-metallic object (drinking straw) to briefly stop/hold the blades. Not a recommended procedure but it will identify noisy fan units.

Could have two problems.... psu and a failing/worn fan.

I can now confirm that the Power Supply isnt what is whining just replaced it with a brand new PSU the GPU seems to be the issue is there any way to stop it's whining :??:

Is this your GPU?

http://www.nvidia.com/content/geforce-gtx/GTX_770_User_Guide.pdf

You mentioned constant whine so I will consider that to mean that the whine starts immediately.

If the GPU's temperature is constant then there is probably not a heat or fan or fan rpm problem. Could be one of the fans but the only way to know is to physically prevent one fan and then the other from turning. Just long enough to see if the whine ends. Must be done carefully and there is some risk.

Instead, as the next step, I suggest that you search Tom's Hardware Forum for "GPU Coil Whine". You may also narrow selection to Nvidia after reading a few of the postings. Way too much information to cut/paste or link into this thread.

See what you find and maybe there will be a viable solution that works for you. I am sure that there are other forum members with ideas and if we have narrowed things down enough (or continue to narrow things down) then some other suggestions may be offered.

i have a feeling its the far fan if anything because it sags a little due to long and heavy on a flimsy pci-e slot i have noticed once the gpu goes underload it seems to stop whining or at least to a level that isnt screaming (only started being able to notice this after psu upgrade today) i also read some of the forum posts about gpu whine and they said to overclock to reduce the whine

Not an over-clocker person as I do not have any real needs or desire to do so.

However, I doubt that there would be much harm in over-clocking just as an short time experiment. Watch the temperatures and performance.

If all goes well, then maybe you could remain over-clocked and without any fan whine.
