Hello, there is a persistent issue I have encountered and finally decided to stop just looking through answers and ask myself.
As of late my computer has been consistently getting slow FPS in games (10-20 FPS), for no reason I can figure out myself. It just happened one day and has persisted since. The problem however is not limited to games as of late too - I get vertical screen tearing and hiccups when trying to watch videos in Opera, especially if they are in 60 FPS. Here are my computer's specs:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
CPU: Intel Core2Duo E7500 @ 2.94 GHz
RAM: 6 GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 560 Ti
Motherboard: Intel PQ5 SE
Now you may think that the problem lies in the fact that as you can figure out - my rig is not only old it's also not very good. I have suspected that it might be that my GPU is wearing out however the change happened suddenly so I'm suspecting it's something else. Before I could get a decent framerate in some games (Warframe for example) but now the same games chug even at low details. For that matter my Opera seems to go completely transparent when launching and when I close down videos, so it might be related to Window's Aero interface.
I have also checked my memory/CPU usage with Performance Monitor while running the games and most of the time it doesn't seem to be anything noteworthy - I even have RAM to spare and my CPU stays on even levels.
I can also provide a list of the things I've tried so far (most of it from the threads on this website):
-Dowloading the latest GPU drivers
-Uninstalling and reinstalling the GPU drivers
-Changing the refresh rate of my monitor
-Checking my BIOS version and confirming it's indeed the newest one
-Turning off all background applications before running the game/using Opera
-Changing the app-specific settings in Nvidia control panel
-Changing the overall settings in Nvidia control panel for both maximum Efficiency and maximum Quality.
AS you can guess none of those have helped. There is another thing that might have caused it and is probably the most likely source - recently my Windows had a pretty bad crash. The kind where it displayed 'NTLDR is missing' and could not be fixed by the Windows Startup Repair, the Windows installation disc or with a System Restore (it wasn't available). I had to fix my boot using the command line from the Windows disc - it now looks fine but displays a message that svchost.exe can't find K:/Logs every time I log onto my profile (K being my USB drive slot - the computer DID crash after I removed an USB stick from it and did a restart). The system works more or less fine right now, even if it did dump all of my programs and games into the Logs folder.
I guess my question is, do I need to buckle up and reinstall Windows or can it be fixed as it is? Since this is my computer with all my important-work related data, I am somewhat apprehensive of doing so, especially since I have little ways to back that data up as of now.
