Constant Power cycling - Dead Motherboard or Weak Power Supply

I recently purchased an Asus Maximus VIII Hero Alpha for my new 1151 build, I got the thing set up on a test layout. I decided to use the power supply from my old system (Corsair TX750 ATX PSU). I was able to boot the new system a few times and get into bios, but after that the system would never even get to display any codes, the fans/lights just kicked on then went off real quick. It continued to turn on/off until i unplugged. I'm pretty sure the motherboard is just bad and i am planning on doing an exchange but i just wanna make sure first. Also, I did test the PSU with a multi-meter:
+12v: 11.96v
+5v: 5.06v
+3v: 3.05v

Old System
Gigabyte 99FX-UD3 (AM3+)
FX -6300
16GB Corsair Vengence
2x HD 7870 in crossfire (my new GTX 1070 runs just fine too)
Corsair TX750 PSU (works just fine in this setup)

New System
Asus Maximus VIII Hero Alpha (LGA 1151)
Core i7 - 6700K
32GB Corsair Vengence
Asus GTX 1070 Strix
Corsair TX750 PSU

The corsair TX 750 is more than enough for your system. It can deliver 60A in the +12V rail.

It can also be ram. Install one module first, then try if it boots. Also you can check with another good power supply to be sure if it is not the power supply.

Voltages from the PSU maybe fine at idle, It is when the unit is put under full load that it can let you down.

Rather than instantly blame the MB and go thru a protracted and sometimes difficult ASUS RMA process, I would swap out the PSU with a known working unit of same or higher Wattage first.

The TX PSU you have listed is only Bronze certified for efficiency and may be borderline for your requirement.

this is calculating an overclock on both the cpu and gpu as well as other stuff i haven't added to the build yet...i didn't even have storage hooked up yet....I have always used the site to help judge PSU needs, and its even recommending an 80+ bronze model (EVGA SuperNOVA 750 B1 80+ BRONZE, 750W Semi Modular 5 Year Warranty Power Supply 110-B1-0750-VR)...Thanks for your response

The PSU is the lifeblood of your system and should not be underestimated.
If you intend on OC or wish to expand then choose a PSU of good quality and slightly more than the Minimal requirement to allow for future expansion.
EVGA are excellent but a bronze certified semi modular unit is borderline IMO.
PSUs have ratings such as Bronze, Gold and Platinum.

I normally don't think it's necessary,but when you say things like that can i understand that you get downvoted.A 750watt psu should be able to deliver that amount whether being bronze or gold doesn't matter.The quality of the psu used is good so that's fine too.


Looking at what's said does the psu seem to work fine and since the psu seems to work fine in the old build (you said that) is it probably something about the new that doesn't work.Like said check ram,but also check the socket for bent pins (although you did get into the uefi/bios a few times),maybe do a clear cmos etc.
