Constant Problems with Himachi

Me and a buddy use himachi for gaming. works fine. However we have to sort through some constant issues on my end.

I set up his network and mine. We both have static ip's locally. However when we turn on himachi I always see the tunneling issue and he doesn't. The himachi.msi file is on my desktop and it takes like 10 seconds to reinstall and the issue is gone. But I don't want to have to do this every time.

Also, himachi starts as a service, which is fine, I want it to do that for when I need it, but while that connection is on I lose all internet functionality. I have it set as the top layer connection in the advanced option in network settings but it has to be like that to game on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't lose normal (non-Hamachi) access to the internet when using Hamachi. If you do, something is definitely wrong. Your default gateway should still be your router's IP address on the primary network interface (wired or wireless network adapter). In fact, if that didn’t work properly, neither would Hamachi (since it rides on top of it). But if somehow you messed around w/ your network settings, perhaps tried to change the Hamachi adapter settings (e.g., make it the default gateway), started reordering adapters, etc., I suppose you could mess things up badly.

Again, all you should be doing is installing Hamachi, configuring it, and that’s it. If you’re mucking w/ it or the network in other ways, and you don’t know what you’re doing (or why you’re doing it), that can lead to all sorts of problems.

I assume you're both using the default Mesh configuration as well (not Gateway). Also, if you're double NAT'd, that can sometimes cause problems w/ Hamachi as well (e.g., it will relay your connections rather than direct tunnel, thus degrading performance).

I'll explain my network in detail. (note: I have little control over this network, I am using it temporarily but I can change settings under the radar)

Its at&t dsl
router one is from att. its setup as 192.168.1.254/24. router 2 feeds off of that with a static route(192.168.1.65/24) configured in each. router 2 feeds on 0.1/24. Im on router 2 as .0.120. I have not configured any settings in himachi other than my name. in fact if I go to the ipv4 settings I see something kinda interesting. its have both tick marks tick for static but they are blank. I assume I just looked at it while it wasn't running and it will populate that later when I run the program.

I also port forwarded himachi through the chain to try that but same results obviously.

Now when I wasn't using this temporary network I was using a single cable modem and hardwired directly too it. It was still doing the same thing. No "mucking" going on here. my himachi is not my default gateway lol.

I could also see where the double nat might be an issue here as well. but not entirely sure. Seems like if that was the case it would have worked fine on my old setup.

At this point it seems obvious to me that its a setting on my computer but I'm not sure which one. All I have set up is a static ip. Maybe I should try filling in the himachi ipv4 settings. not at home now but let me know what you think of this eibgrad.

You said "I always see the tunneling issue". Is the only issue this problem of not having internet and Hamachi access at the same time, or is it something more? For example, you can't connect Hamachi at times? Or it’s relayed rather than a direct tunnel? I just want to be sure we zero in on the right problem.
