I've started tinkering around with the construction set.

Under [Character][Race] you can create custom races.

The default races though, have certain "Specials" (like Orcs getting
"Berserk" and "Resistant to Magica").

I have not been able to figure out how to add specials to custom races.
The box is there for them, but all the lines are blank and I can't
seem to find any way to get anything into them.

It's a simple drag and drop operation. Create your ability wihtin the
"Spellmaking" tab of the Object Window and drag it into the "Specials"
section of the Race dialog window.

If you are thinking of giving them abilities, here is an
easy way to do it. You cannot do it during the
customisation process, unless it is connected with
their birthsign.

The ability is a special type of spell. Look up the spells
in the TESC. sort them according to type. The ability
types will all be at the top then. You can custom-make
your own 'abilities' by savíng the spell as an ability and
not a spell.

Note the ID in the TESC, and give your character the
ability by the console command:

player->addspell "spell ID" ENTER

player->removespell "spell ID" will take it away again

Or you could just drag-and-drop the ability/power/spell from spellmaking
tab to the race's ability list in TESC.

Not as haX0r l33t way as console commands, but a lot more convenient 😉.

Now, what you can't do (or at least I haven't find out a way to do) is to
give touch attacks as permanent abilities. It would be fun to give the
cats some real claws >:)...

That would add said special ability to every member of the race, not just
the PC. For something like making all Argonians perminantly water-breathe
it wouldn't be a problem, but if it was something like fortify attack 100,
it could get painful for you.

Just add it as a spell, with 0 cost and automatic success. If it's not
too extreme, it shouldn't unbalance the game to give all Khaajit or
Argonians a natural touch attack.

The Argonians should get a natural chamelion ability, like, well,
chamelions. Maybe balance it by having it tire them out to do it,
by mixing it with a low level drain fatigue on self or something. :)

Well, the original poster asked how to add abilities to his new custom
race. Thus I assumed that he was indeed trying to add the ability to
every member of this race, instead of just making the PC the ultimate
killing machine...
