Contemplating upgrade from i7-4770k

So, as I'm sure there are other posts that have been made over the past couple months regarding this I would just like to ask it myself and pick the minds of those that are more versed than I am.

I currently run a i7-4770k (horrible overclocker btw), Asus z-97 Pro, Dominator Platinum 1600mhz 8gb memory, and GTX 780, H100i AIO, Corsair Air 540.

The thing I want to know is if I should upgrade to Skylake? I have the itch to upgrade and have been wanted to move to Skylake since it's release but I'm still unsure if the move would be beneficial in the slightest. All I do is game for the most part so I would only be looking at getting the i5-6600k. I am also almost done with my degree in Software Engineering so I dab here and there into programming but nothing too serious. If I pulled the trigger on the upgrade I would then be getting a new monitor as well to run at 1440p. Would it be worth it at the end of the day to spend the money or should I just wait until what looks like 2017 for Cannonlake?

I would like to thank anyone and everyone in advance to taking a glance at my post or even being kind enough to respond.

Solution
From i7 4770k to i5 6600k?
- Core performance should increase but something you could not really notice.
- You loose HT.
- You could gain better OCability, depends on your luck.
- You get those new Z170 goodies. e.g. DDR4 support
Overall benefit quite close to none (compared to what you need to spend) in my opinion.

Better spend the money on better GPU and/or monitor.
Not worth it. You might get 20% more throughput, allowing for overclocking, but you are also sacrificing your Hyperthrerading. The only reason for you to go to Skylake is that you NEED the newer features of the Z170 chipset (and I don't think that you do)

If the money is begging to be spent, get a GTX980ti and a 27" 1440P monitor. (or even an ultrawide)
