Content creation build for 2018

Current system is old (i7 860), so starting new with everything. Don't do gaming, and need a system for content creation (photoshop, illustrator, occassional video work).

Looking at at the i5 / ryzen 2600.

Is the integrated GPU on the i5 powerful enough to handle fairly intensive photoshop work? Large files, filters, etc. I know people have always recommended a dedicated GPU, but not sure if that's the case anymore if you're not doing a lot of gaming.

Also work with large Illustrator vector files and current system grinds to a halt with more complex files and artwork. Not sure if that would be a GPU or CPU thing but need to address that issue as well.

Don't have a big budget, so basically deciding between (IMO) better Ryzen 2 and having to buy a GPU, or i5 Coffee Lake and using integrated graphics.

Any input/experiences would be appreciated!

Nah, IGPU is enough for photoshop, since mainly CPU work.

SSD will help with working with large files

have case, psu, 128gb ssd for OS/apps, 1tb hdd for data

Ideally...
i5 or ryzen2
~ $100 gpu if needed
~ $125 mobo
16gb ram
additional 500gb ssd for data, 1tb hdd would fall back to less needed files

just an old mid-tower cooler master (i think) case. antec smartpower 550w

Ryzen 5 + RX 550 no doubt.
The Intel IGPU will be hopelessly useless when editing high resolution pictures.

Hyperthreading with I7 is beneficial for video editing. This all assumes you don’t need this fancy acceleration from dedicated gpu.

If you need those acceleration, you will need a dedicated gpu which is not cheap. You may get 8500 with a GTX1050.

Why Recommend a Gaming chip when he said, he is 100% "productivity and content creation." He should be looking at a Ryzen 5 2600x and Ryzen 7 2700x. Those are the best bang for your buck Productivity CPU's for productivity. the 2700x easily beats the 8700k in performance numbers.

Gaming chip is a weird concept, any chip can play games. As I have explained in my rationale, photoshop and illustrator are all single core applications. Coffee lake has better IPC and that is all.
