Hello Tom's Hardware! I am having a strange issue I have not encountered before with Windows 7, in that I am experiencing issues loading things using windows explorer. Such as the computer not loading (where it should show my C: drive, and my Disk drive), and the control panel also not showing up with anything... It says it is loading, but is very slow.. Also for other files that contain things on my desktop, those also are partially loading, or not loading the icons that are supposed to show thumbnails etc... I have tried a few things, but I have no clue where to start...

Thanks for all the help! I will also try and provide pictures if this issue persists..

Solution
then most likely youve been hit by a virus/malware. you can attempt the quick fix below
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/control-panel-will-not-open-windows

also run the following to attempt to fix the virus/malware :
* download and run "rkill". dont restart.
* download and do a full scan with "malwarebytes"
* update Windows Defender and do a fulll scan. you can also use a 3rd party virus scanner.

then you will need to check the integrity of your windows files

if it fails above, then you will need to reinstall your windows.
It seems that the folder that has the majority of my icons/ pictures is already optimized, as it was in my pictures tab.. The main concern I would say is that my computer/control panel will not load, as I cannot access or click to access anything in these areas

Ok thank you for the replies, I will see if this works, and post tommorow if I have any results.. I currently have an antivirus program running a full scan to see if there is a fix or if I have malware..
