Controller Not Responding

when i switch on my vectrex it doesnt display the 'vectrex' startup
screen, rather it jumps striaght to the game (minestorm or cartrigde).

After that the controller wont respond and i cant start the game(s).

i have tried a known working controller and the same thing happens.
can someone guide me?

OK, its the AY-3-8912.

when i remove it from the vectrex it works as expected, of course
without sound or any of the 4 buttons working!

So, who would like to part with a AY-8912, for a price of course...

OK, replaced the AY-3-8912. Many thanks Richard it did the trick!

But now i notice strange things in vecmania and other games by John
Dondzila;

some of the text (esp. the in the menu e.g. where you would select
'bird of prey') is squashed vertically, not by a small amount either.

has anyone seen this before?

Hi,

the 'problem' you have is there are a number of pots, 2 or 3, inside the
Vectrex that can be manipulated to alter X, Y, position, etc. ... someone
correct me if I'm wrong... you can find the specifics of these on the web
somewhere.

I have 2 vec's and with the Dondzilla carts had one with stretched lettering
and one with really squished... I think it is exagerated near the edge of
the screen and as John uses scrolling messages right near the edge it
becomes noticeable.

I haven't messed with the pots myself, but as you've had yours open and
replaced a chip you're probably up to messing with a few other internal
components. :¬)
