convert laptop monitor into a mini tv? custom modifications.

so i have a strange question. i have started getting into refurbishing consoles and controllers, and custom painting. one thing ive been wanting to try, but cant figure out how, is if i can remove and re purpose a laptop display. i have access to a few older or broken laptops, and i want to try building a custom mobile console gaming briefcase. i would like to modify the screen to have its own power supply and hdmi in, and hopefully find a way to keep the speakers as well. over the past couple years ive tried searching the internet, but cannot find anything. has anyone else out there managed to do this? is there a good site with directions for this? I am always looking for more resorces to learn about repairs, and custom modifications. i do this as a hobby, and so far ive been stumbling blindly hoping youtube has a tutorial for everything. thanks!
