Converted basic to extended disk, now explorer constantly crashes?

Hi,

I wasn't thinking what I was doing, shrank one partition, then extended the other, I meant to extend it's size, but I've now got one additional partition, and turned the whole disk dynamic.

I did this in win 10 disk manager. Thought everything was ok, but now explorer constantly crashes. have run SFC and DISM to no avail, I'm going to just bite the bullet and delete all volumes and convert back.

Any reason why this should have happened? thankfully the disk just contains boot drive backups, win 10 downloads folder and a steam directory so it's not a massive issue

Disk gets converted from basic to dynamic, when you try to perform some partition management operation, that is not possible on basic disk. You get warned before conversion though. So you have to read all warnings carefully.

well, yes, indeed, it's a case of not bothering to read/clicking ahead of engaging brain etc.

Just wondered if the storage experts knew of an 'off the top of the head' reason why windows/explorer is now crashing constantly after converting to a dynamic disk?!

Most likely some 3rd party software is causing that (one that has compatibility issues with dynamic disk volumes).
Normally that should not happen.
