Converting a 3 pin fan to a 2 pin fan

I have a 12v fan with a 3 pin female jst-hx adapter that I need to convert to a 2 pin jst-hx female and also run off a 24v supply. I have a 7812 voltage regulator so that should convert the 24v to 12v for the fan but what do I do for connectors? There are 3 wires. Do I just use a 3 pin male and only connect the red/black wires to a 2 pin female and connect that to the power supply (with the 7812 in between)?

Thanks!

Solution
Just connect the red and black pins to the 12v supply. Make sure you polarity is correct so you do not fry stuff. The third pin is just reporting RPM info to the motherboard.
