I have recently bought a new desktop with Windows 11. Details…

12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-12100 3.30 GHz
ASRock H610-M-HDS/M.2 (rev 2.0) Motherboard
2x 8GB Team DDR4
500GB Team NVMe drive
2x 500GB Team GX2 SATA SSD

I am interested in making this a dual monitor system. It has a 15 pin d-type connector (analogue) with a HDMI socket. What do I need to do software wise to do this and do I need to buy or just download an app to set this up. Presumably the PC will need to know the resolution of the other monitor.

I was told that the 15 pin d-type connector was analogue. I always thought it was digital. I believe I can get a HDMI to DVI adaptor or maybe a HDMI monitor. Also, I bought some time ago a CCTV system that came with a 15 pin d-type connector to HDMI adaptor. But how can this be if 15 pin d-type connector is analogue and the HDMI is digital?

Thanks. Desmond.

According to the mobo website you have three outputs, d-sub/vga dvi and hdmi, these are independent outputs and each one can drive a different monitor without any conversions, unless the monitor doesn't have the right input to go with the output.

You just have to connect the monitor and it will tell windows automatically what resolutions it can display, you might have to re configure which one will be the main display if it changes to the one you don't want to be main.
Just press the windows key and type resolution and the correct windows setting app will show up.

Actually, appears to have only 2.

Yes USAFRet is right.

The motherboard does not have a D-Sub it is Analogue and HDMI. I have been told that the board is ASRock H610-M-HDS/M.2 (rev 2.0) Motherboard. I have checked the back and all it has is analogue and HDMI. I have an old monitor connected to the Analogue output. It dosn't matter which is the main output but I suppose that the HDMI should be as it will be better quality.

This looks good. But the only problem is making them look good side by side. This one has dual analouge and digital. AND Actualy the speck is is wrong. On front 1 USB2 and 1 USB3, Back 4 USB 2 and 2 USB 3

If you are using the analogue d-sub for the current monitor, all you need for the second monitor is an HDMI cable (assuming this second monitor has an HDMI input port)

Yes, that port on the left in the pic above IS the d-sub.

If Display port is another name for DVI then, H610M-HVS/M.2 R2.0 seems to be the motherboard. I am going by the information given to me by the shop. I would have thought the shop owner would be the expert on this. The PDF manual online seems to be for both boards.

Display port is NOT another term for DVI.

HDMI
DisplayPort
DVI
D-sub

4 separate types of connections.

Can you show us a pic of the back of your system?
That might clear up a lot of things, 2 ports or 3, and what exact type.
