Cool & Quiet VIdeo card

Hello,

I am looking to upgrade my 7600 GT. I am looking for recommendations on an upgrade that is not really loud and does not run like the surface of the sun. It seems newer cards are either very hot or really loud with fan noise.


Any info would be great.

But when you ahve a passive video card make sure you have nice airflow in your case, they tend to run real hot without any good airlfow.

I'd bet that it will run hotter than almost any 4770 under load. It certainly fits the requirement for quiet though.

Yep that will be hotter for sure. I finally got my new pc up and running with both 4770's and they were idling at 39C while overclocked to 830/850. Pretty amazing I'm sure most will agree.

A passively cooled 9600GT will be faster than the 7600GT and be cool even when OC'ed. At 700MHz core and 933MHz mem GPU-Z never reported over 49C; at least with an Accelero S2 heatsink.

The 9600GT is not a HD 4770 and it will not perform as well.


My real recommendation is the HD 4770.

A passively cooled 9600 GT or reference HD 4770 are worthy choices.

On the other side, if you want something even stronger, check out this non-reference GTX 275 (see below). I don't know what your power supply and processor are, but your hardware and wallet are good, this might be a decent option...

My power supply is 600w, but my processor is a pretty outdated e6400 OC'd to 2.7ghz. It still does what I need it to so I have no real urge to upgrade the CPU.

Silent, cooler than most fan cooled HD 4850s.

Yep, nice card for a passive cooler. I never really like silent coolers because without good airflow they tend to oeverheat.
