Question Cooler compatibility issues for AM3?

I'm working to replace the cooler on my old build from 2016. I have a Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard and a AMD FX-6300 3.5 GHz 6-Core Processor. I was using the cooler that came with the processor for years with no issues, but over the last few months, the cooler fan stopped working, so I thought I would go ahead and upgrade. I bought a Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler, which according to PC part picker is AM3 compatible. Unfortunately, when I went to put it on my PC, the mounting brackets don't fit AM3, and the manual says it's only AM4/AM5 compatible.

Does anyone know if I can just buy new mounting brackets to fit it on my AM3 MB or do I need to use another cooler all together? If not, any recommendations for an AM3 compatible cooler?

Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

The older revisions of the Hyper 212 would fit on the AM3 platform. How about you contact Coolermaster, show them your proof of purchase for the cooler and perhaps they can ship out a mounting bracket for the AM3 platform...?

If you look for cooler's that use the clips on two ends, that are the same for AM3, AM4 and AM5, then you should be good to go if you're looking for a new cooler to replace the Hyper 212.

Case in point, ask first then go buy, not the other way around.
