Question Cooler for 12600kf?

Title says it all. Been building PCs for years and worked on them for years but my experience with Intel is mostly limited to prebuilt Dell boxes.

Got a deal on a 12600kf on Amazon for $140 bucks US. Which seemed like a killer deal. If I’m not doing a lot of overclocking or any really, what’s a decent cooler for say 20 bucks ish?

For the extra cost the thermaltake peerless assassin is likely worth it. This air cooler has been the top rated cooler on many different sites. It outperform even more expensive air coolers and even some of the smaller water aio systems.

Thanks for the responses. For reference I’m likely using this case. If anyone has been around a while this case has been around since about 2010-12. I had actually built an amd box in this case back in the day. Thinking of painting it white and building in it.

It wasn't very long ago that I actually toss one of those in the trash....too much computer stuff that I will never actually use.

Although it likely will be fine the main concern I would have is how much clearance there it to the side panel. Nowdays cases tell you how much clearance there is for air coolers in the specs these older ones not so much.
If you try to measure it be sure to have some kind of motherboard mounted since that will add a small bit and modern air coolers are rather tall.

Partpicker seems satisfied both of those Thermalright coolers will fit.

I see a few older builds with CoolerMaster Hyper Evo 212 which is about the same height, so I wouldn't expect any problems.

That is when you go buy a real ammo box and put a PC in it. A very common project. And the army surplus ammo boxes for .50 cal rounds aren't that hard to find.

Probably be a lot easier today with high end Mini-ITX boards and SFX and Flex ATX PSUs.

Is the second option listed above, the Thermalright dual tower a hard install?

Also total Intel noob here but from what I gather I am after a b660, b760 or better. Been seeing some deals on some z690 boards today too. Would like to be 100 bucks or less for the board preferably. If it’s close like say $110 I am open to it.

For example this seems decent

Any recommendations? Also should mention I’ve got a microcenter just a few minutes away.

Last, looking at the vetroo v5 and the deepcool ak400. Thoughts on those?

Cases are mostly about what you like the best. Lots of fans and mesh tends to be all that matters cooling. Some people..not me..like lots of glass panels and fancy led lights.
Although you need to double check me the peerless assassin is 157mm tall, it will easily fit in the inland case. The ql300 says it will take 157mm so it is exactly on the limit.

.....so a bit more info. There is also a peerless assassin 120 "SE". I would think it has about the same performace since it the same size but 2mm shorter. The new problem would be to ensure it does not now block your memory. If you are purchasing new memory I would avoid the tall stuff with fancy leds.

Ended up going with this case.

Only thing left to get now is an ssd and a board. Don’t need the ssd but my current boot drive is 240gb so might grab a 500gb.

Always a fan of Donald Duck since I was a kid so going to try to find some figurines to put on the case and some decals for the window and other side.

Any recommendations on a ddr4 board for the 12600k? I have 4 8gb sticks of ddr4 3200mhz gskill trident z I think, that I’m intending to reuse.

If you plan to overclock it you are going to need a "Z" board but that increases the price. If you are going into microcenter they tend to have some of the cheaper motherboards. I suspect since you are looking at ddr4 the brand doesn't matter a lot those boards have all the bugs worked out.
They have a bunch under $100 only can determine what feature like slots and wifi etc have value to you.

Microcenter still has good prices on m.2 SSD,there in house brand inland seems to not have the price increases other brands have. I suspect though by next year these will cost more too since production of the memory chips used on them has been cut back.
