I am building my first Amd system. Got a great deal on some parts. I am gonna be using and Abit NF7-S board with an XP 2000. I do plan to try overclocking. I understand not to expect much from a XP2000 but I will be getting a new chip in the next month or so.

Could someone please give some insight as to which heatsink may work for me.

Thanks in Advance.

From Thermalright, SP97, SLK948U, SLK947U, SLK900U/A, SLK800U/A, the performance difference between these heatsinks aren't that huge with high-powered fans, Thermalright is the best company for high-performance heatsinks.

From Swiftech, who also kick ass products, MCX462-V, MCX462, if you're into Peltiers, then MCX462-T with a 92mm Tornado is definently the best air cooling solution possible, but this'll be loud, and you'll need very very good airflow in your case.

Zalman differs from the 2 companies i've mentioned, they focus on silence, their best product for amd are the CNPS7000A-CU, which is their pure copper version, and a aluminum/copper mix version which is called the CNPS7000A-ALCU.

Vantec makes a product called the Aeroflow, it's in my opinion the best bet of all the heatsinks, moderate noise, priced very low, half if not less than the price of Thermalright/Swiftech/Zalman products. Stay away from Vantec Aeroflow 2, it sucks, version 1's the best. These aren't for enthusiasts, they just run your chips like 5-10C colder than the crappy AMD stock. These things are maintenance free, the TMD fan doesn't die, and the heatsink doesn't require frequent cleaning.

Thermaltake has also came out with a couple of nice products for socket462 recently, their Extreme Volcano 12 is a very good cooler, the fan's speed can be controlled, i believe from 2000 to about 5000RPM.

These are all the good ones i can think up right now, i'll post up more when i remember more.

Just remembered Thermalright SK7, it's not much worse than the SLK800U/A, if it's much cheaper then the SK7 may be a better choice than the Thermalright's SLK series.

Thanks for the information. Seems that alot of people recommend the Aeroflow, and it is in my price range. Thanks for your help.
