cooler for intel i5 4670

i i want to know if thermaltake water 3.0 performer or pro are louder than the stock itel fan at the lowest possible speed(to cool the cpu at stock 3.4 while playing games like far cry 3) and if so by how much and is the thermaltake nic c5 a better choice in term of noise ? they will cool the i5 at stock no overclocking. the cpu is not unlocked


these coolers are the only two i can get in my city so sadly i can't get any other one

Can you get the Noctua NH-U14S? It cools just as good if not better than those AIOs and will be quieter, it will also cool the motherboards VRMs that do not get cooled if you chose a AIO (All-in-One).
If you want something cheap that will get the job done at stock clocks and stay quiet then I would look at the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO

The stock Intel cooling fan has always been touted as one of the quietest stock coolers around but the Thermaltake water coolers will be quieter at the lowest setting.

I have a Corsair Hydro H100i (not the same but same idea) and at the lowest setting I cannot hear it over the other system fans.

Prime95 is great for stability but in real world situations, the CPU will never hit that temperature as nothing stresses the CPU to 100% consistently like Prime95 or IBT does so it should not be a reference point for temperatures.

It's my impression that it runs into trouble once it's overloaded and has to spin up beyond 2500 RPM. Other than that yeah it's pretty quiet. Dunno why a stock 4670 is pushing it all the way to 90C though, maybe it's not mounted correctly?

The Hyper 212 EVO is not a bad cooler, but as often as it is parroted for its name, it is a bang for buck LOSER. Measured against other 120mm tower coolers, it is within 1C-3C (either way) depending on who is testing and how they do it, but competitors tend to be 15%-25% cheaper. I use the Xigmatek Gaia myself:

Unlike the Hyper212 EVO (ignore the URL; it IS the EVO they tested), the Gaia never throttled, although it wasn't always the coolest depending on the fan used. Both got awards, but the Gaia is cheaper as well. NZXT also has a new 120mm cooler, which is even cheaper, although I've not seen it tested. Frostytech found the Gaia to be up to 6db quieter than the Hyper212 Plus, on which the EVO is based. Where it's the only one available, the Hyper212 family is not bad (I'm not saying it is), but where it has competition, usually that competition is slightly superior.

Supply and demand. Everyone hears the Hyper 212 Evo is great value for money, rushes down to buy it... and that drives the price up.

the intel stock cooler being among the most quiet? What a joke don't make me laugh....lol. Thing sounded like a leafblower while gaming. The 212 evo is silent compared to that rinky dink thing

the spring screws are also a pain to install. How the Enermax T40 and Xigmatek Dark Knight 2 install is so much easier. I'd spend the extra 15 bucks atm and get the better nzxt havik 140...the evo has shot up in price too much to be worth it anymore. 40 bucks for the thing? No thanks...for a measly 30 more bucks you can get a good noctua cooler

well sadly i can only buy the nic c5 or the water 3 pro or performer . i have a gigabyte windforce gtx 770 gpu will the coolers be louder than it ? and will putting them at the lowest speed be enough to cool the cpu to under 70 while playing video games . and still which one is the quietest with enough performance?

When gaming, the CPU cooler will not be louder than the GPU cooler. Preferably get the Pro. It has a thicker radiator and dual fans so it will be able to run quieter than the performer at the same settings.

For example, I have a H100i from Corsair and a Sapphire Vapor-X HD 7970, one of the quietest air cooled versions, and the GPU gets much louder than the CPU cooler does. And the CPU stays nice and cool on the lowest setting so it stays much quieter.
