Alright this is really buggin me... so I've decided on the 1700x after long thought, and thanks to the help of some of you on here!

I do NOT want a water cooler, and I DO NOT want one of these enormous tower coolers meant for super over clocking!

Noctua makes a lower profile cooler, but I am hearing it is not powerful enough to cool a 1700x... the reason I do not want a big tower, is I like to look inside my case and also, I am not over clocking my CPU... also I DO NOT want to run into the cooler hitting my memory.

all the cooler master coolers that are getting an AM4 bracket are huge enormous things...
Is the noctua NH-L9x65 going to work? It would be NICE if I could find a non tower cooler that could take a tad bit of over clocking... no need for anythin crazy! Thank you...

Okay so I have coming in...
Ryzen 1700x
MSI x370 Pro Carbon
G.skill trident Z 3200, CS 14 16gig memory...
deepcool maxx 400 cooler.
WISH ME LUCK!

So is that overclocking, or no overclocking? : D

If you intend on doing some overclocking, one option would be to go with a 1700 in place of the 1700X, which comes with AMD's Wraith Spire LED cooler. The 1700 is set for lower clocks out of the box, but should be capable of overclocking to similar levels as the 1700X.

If I am buying an aftermarket fan, its nice to have the possibility of light overclocking, but it is less of a priority than having a fan that fits in my case without hitting the memory or looking like a skyscraper on my chip!

I went ahead and grabbed a deepcool gammaxx 400. It was cheaper and bigger... and it mount vertically so hopefully it won't hit the ram!

A couple reviewers on newegg said the thermal with the NH-L9x65 gave them temps in the mid 70s after the 20 degree subtraction for Ryzen... it kinda scared me off that Noctua low profile fan... even though that is really what I wanted. Perhaps I will revisit that fan in the future.
