I've started the build for Cooler Master's media suite at 2010 CES. The D-9 concept was mine after seeing the movie.

I should know by first week of November what hardware CM will be sending me.

Make first initial cut with your Dremel and cutting wheel, to allow use of Jigsaw and cut the window more efficiently

You have created slot, this allows using a Jigsaw w/ 18 TPI cutting blade

Thank you,
I'm probably going to go with 24x24" of this: http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=15697&step=4&id=1&top_cat=0

I was looking all over for Aluminum ones, I even checked at onlinemetals.com (I have bought Aluminum bars from them) but I wasn't looking under Steel lol.

Again, thanks for the help.

Will take some more this weekend, I didn't have much time to spend in the shop.

and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I've gotta keep plugging away at this, so it's finished in time to be shipped to Vegas for the 2010 CES.

Whats this? It's a cannibalized Mitron Interlink, 3.5" bay fan controller

Mnpctech Painter, Brad Galvin starts the transformation from pristine to weathered and dilapidated. He starts by creating the illusion of a scratched-up exterior, imagine Christopher dragged his computer in the gravel. Did he have to wrestle it away from somebody at one time?

The Orange & White exterior finish has been scratched done to the bare metal. This is done by hand using enamel "One Shot" Silver paint and a paint brush.

Brad has painted a variety of Prawn insignia, language and graphics by hand. The bolts are given weathered effects. Christopher left his PC out in the rain. ....Acid rain perhaps?

Nice Nice Nice,

hey and an Offtopic question, I got a cordless Dremel LI-ion 10.8v dremel for x-mas,
it has the same RPM's as the corded ones, and they say that the LI-ion cordless dremels work just like the corded ones.

My question to you (pro modder and such) is do you think it will work for some small modding projects (vent's, adding couple of fans and such, maybe a window) the cordless one will work; or should I return it and get a corded dremel like the 300 or 4000.

Anyway, your work is awesome, and I've watched some of your vids on modding ans such great work.

I have just one more question, where do you get your low adhesive scotch tape that you use in your vids, not the 4010, the tape that you use to cover everything up with before cutting. I could't find any low adhesive tape wider than 3/4in.

Enough with my problem, the case looks great.

@ coopchennick, Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it!

@ tkg, for small plastic bits, cordless is fine. For any type of metal work, you want corded. You can buy the 3M Scotch "Green" low tack tape at "Autobody Supply Stores" otherwise, you can Google online Autobody Suppliers

I just got the DVD today. I laughed at seeing the "Puddi" brand cat food can again. while I watched, the system got nestled into the MB and ready for install

Well
I returned the cordless and got a corded Black & Decker rotary tool, I know it's not the "proven brand", but it was cheep as hell (30$ with some accerories) it fits all rotary tool accerories (I can't spell it)
It is a 2.0 amp tool that goes up to 30,000 rpm (a tad slower than DREMEL)

only real downside is it's only 3 speed. But for the price you can't go wrong. :D

Anyway still looking awesome and hoping for more pis

@ shawdow, Yes, it's in the Project Worklog Subforum :)

@ tkg, Yes, the B&D is awesome. I've owned the same model.

The weathered and rust effects are hand painted and airbrushed by Brad on the main body, bezel, top panel and backplate of the Cooler Master 840 case.

Are you talking about the B&D RTX? If so it is "mult speed" to say the least. If you set the dial to any where between the settings (ie between Low & Med) the tool will have a rpm between Low & Mid. I own/owned a B&D RTX -B(IIRC) and I was able to do that. Currently I use a B&D for mid-low level work (ie cutting small plastics like Legos, etc). I use a Proxxon 38481 for my high level work (ie cutting sheet metal, engravings, etc). See: http://www.amazon.com/Proxxon-38481-Professional-Rotary-Tool/dp/B001FWXEO6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1262206595&sr=8-1
Too bad not many places sell the Proxxons.

@OP: Keep up the good work. Also, have you considered adding some "graffiti" writings, etc on the side to give an affect that it's been "vandalized" also?

Man I think an angel just got it's wings, that thing is sick, great attention to detail.

I haven't even scene district 9 and the case still blows me away, I really like the inlaid looking hex grill in the last picture posted.

shadow
I think it's the rtx-6 I couldn't tell any difference between the two on the B &D website though. I'll give the middle thing a try when it get it.

I was going to go with the proxxon (heard they were nice) or a dremel 4000, but they are both more expensive (funny thing is I didn't even have to pay for it, since the returned dremel was a gift) and I have access to a full metal shop for heavy duty projects, so I went with the B&D.

KEEP IT UP

Nope, we have a CNC cutter (a plasma table/cam) and it will do nice designs in pretty thick metal (.5 inch steel).

We do have an old manual mill, but it's more like a drill press.

I take what I said back, it's not a full metal workshop (with CNC stuff, water cutter). But it's still pretty full and has got a lot of fun toys. The shop mostly does custom stuff, like benches, railings, tables, signs, etc....
