Hello everyone,

I would like to buy an after market CPU cooler since I am not very happy with the temperatures I get using Intel's stock cooler.

In particular I am looking into buying "Cooler Master Hyper 212+ EVO" (1) since it has very good reviews everywhere I looked. And also according to these reviews it comes packaged with quality thermal compound, which is another nice plus as I will not have to buy one additionally.

My main concern though is, whether I will be able to fit this cooler inside of "SilverStone PS11B-Q Precision black" case (2). According to specs (2), this case supports coolers with maximum height of 161mm, which should be just enough for the 159mm tall "Cooler Master Hyper 212+ EVO". But according to this guide (3) on Tom's Hardware there should be a difference of at least 5mm between the cooler height and the maximum supported cooler height of the case. The reviewer in this review (4) of my case also expresses his concern about the possibility of installing "Cooler master Hyper 212+ EVO" into it.

What is your opinion/experience ? Will I be able to use this cooler with the case I have ?

The other alternatives that I was thinking about are "Cooler Master Hyper T4" and "Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO". However I am concerned about the performance of these two, mainly the latter one. I would like to have temperatures of around 25-30 degrees Celsius at idle and around 50-55 degrees at full load. Right now I have temperatures of around 35-40 degrees at idle, 40-50 at moderate load (Firefox is on and some text/code editors) and I can get to about 68-70 degrees at full load when compiling code on all 4 cores or running benchmarks.

How do these two alternatives fare against "Cooler Master Hyper 212+ EVO" ?

My specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4690K
Case: SilverStone PS11B-Q Precision black
Mobo: Asrock Z97 Extreme 4
RAM: Crucial 8GB KIT DDR3 1600MHz CL8 Ballistix Tactical LP

I think too that you should have atleast a 4mm difference. Of course you can take the risk but i wouldnt probably take it. The alternatives for the 212 are as you saw, not that good compared to it. I have had the TX3 and it served me pretty well with decent temperatures. But if you want better cooling than these two alternatives, then you should take a look at something like Noctua cpu coolers (they are a bit more expensive). But if i had to choose one of those two i would go for the TX3

Thank you for your answer.
Do you have tips for any particular Noctua coolers ?
What were the specs of the machine, where you used TX3 ?
Do you still remember what were the temps on that machine at idle and at full load ?

Of course, the Noctua ones are also kinda big so, the Noctua NH-U9S is only 125mm and its a quality cooler.
And i had a FX 8320 and a GTX 750 ti with the TX3, cant really remember the exact temps, but they were reasonable. I would assume about 27C idle or so.
