Cooler master hyper 212 evo

I’m having trouble mounting the x shaped thing onto the cpu. When I screw in one corner the other one rises up and I can’t screw it down. Any tips?

After you thread the screw for one end (only 1 turn or so) you have to push down the opposite end with some force. And I mean push, there's no other way to get it to catch.

I just installed one and that puzzled me at first.

It's important to have that push back because that keeps the cooler firm against the CPU 🙂

Just don't push so hard as to flex the MB. Also, make sure you used the correct standoffs because they supply some for Intel and some for AMD.

I used the dark tallest ones (not the bright chrome ones) for my AND AM4 cpu.

I think Intel uses the shorter, bright chrome ones.

I have an AMD AM4 cpu so I followed those directions.
But I did have that resistance.
I assume you got it finally?

I have an AMD AM4 cpu so I followed those directions.
But I did have that resistance.
I assume you got it finally?

I tried the black stands again but I still can’t get the corners to both screw in. Am I doing something wrong?

There is a diagram in the instructions that shows which "Leg" has to be on the bottom. It's a bit tricky, but see if you can make sense of it and see if yours is set properly.

I just finished installing the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo cooler on an ASUS socket 1155 MOBO. It came with the worst instructione EVER. I did my first PC build in 1986 so I am not a rookie at building PCs.

1. There is no indication in the instructions that the holding plate goes on the BACK side of the MOBO. None. I spent 30 minutes trying to figure it out and decided that it had to go on the back. Problem was that the MOBO was already in the case. I called Cooler Master but tech support wasn't answering the phone (mid-day during business hours). The website was no help either. I found a video on You Tube that confirmed my assumption. Even though I had rear acces to the MOBO in the case, getting the nuts on while it was in the case proved to be too difficult so I pulled the MOBO and then attached the back plate. Much, much easier. BTW the nuts are 9mm as are the riser screws. I used a 9mm nut driver rather than the supplied Philips head nut socket. LESSON: install the CPU & fan BEFORE you put the MOBO in the case.

2. I test fitted the X-arm without the cooler in place. The instruction images are NOT clears as to which way it goes. There is only one way it will fit. Since my MOBO was an 1155 socket, arm nuts needed to be in the center position. Getting the orientation correct required some test fitting without the cooler in place. LESSON: test fit the x-arm without the cooler in place.

3. I discovered that the cooler needs to be placed with the logo reading from the front of the case. When placed reading from the rear of the case it does not sit centered on the CPU with the x-arm in place. This applies to the socket 1155; it may not apply to the other socket that the cooler can be used with.

4. The instructions show installing a SECOND fan. This an OPTION but I was puzzled at first thinking my kit was missing a fan. And if you have 2 fans installed, how do you plug in the 2nd CPU fan?

At this point I will never buy another Cooler Master product. Terrible instructions, no support and a complicated design. There are better options out there.
