i just ordered the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus and some Arctic Cooling mx-2 was wondering the best way to spread the compound as i have never used a HDT heatsink?

Normally you spread it on the CPU while it is already latched to the board. 2 small rice grain sized amounts should do the trick. Then spread it evenly around the whole CPU making sure you have a very thin layer. Then all you have to do is install the cooler and you are done.

Personally I apply it to the heat sink and not the actual CPU. This way im sure it wont get on to the board no matter what. Here is a link that can help you :

I lapped a hyper 212+ with no problems. I didn't check any temp difference as I lapped before installing. The gaps were noticeably smaller after lapping and it felt more smooth.

If your going to lap just lap in moderation. Just don't sit there lapping for hours until it breaks :p

Used artic-5 silver.

Results i5 750@3.8ghz after 6 hours prime 95 100% load, 59C
1.26v in bios
cpu-z says 1.21
load-line disabled (lowered temps a good bit)
