It would be nice to know what you tested with, onboard sound cards are well know to not have enough voltage to properly drive a mic. When listening to the sound on Hardwar Canucks on YouTube the mic sounded quite decent for the money and better than many for more than double the price. Also what was the sound of the headphones like, did they have a flat response, V shaped, really bass heavy, woolly, bright, edgy?
