Cooler Master PSU & Japanese Capacitors

Hi,

Recently I bought a Cooler Master power supply unit (Silent Pro M 700W).

First time I saw one of these units at a store, I noticed the expression "Japanese Capacitors" among the highlights list on the box. But then I bought it from another store.

When I got home I noticed that there is some kind of a band glued on the expression Japanese Capacitors and on the band it now reads "high quality capacitors." The band is like a corrector and it is like a "mistake" corrected.

I don't know what to think of it. Were they lying in the first place? Do you think that the unit should be returned?

I don't care for Cooler Master power supplies in general, but it looks like they changed OEM (and source components), and rather than changing the packaging, they just amended it (sloppy).

Thank you for the reply. I am sorry to hear that. Leaves me in doubt about whether or not I should return it.

I am aware that Cooler Master is not the best deal for the money in general. The reason I bought it because noise is a big issue for me (expecting a baby) and this was the only silent PSU that I could find for this money.

Do you think that this unit could be of poorer quality than the other one, i.e., the one with the Japanese capacitors? Or would they be about the same?

A 600W unit differs from 700W unit, that's what i have found during different reviews about different units from the same series.

Anyway, I don't trust hardwaresecrets myself because i found too many opposite info reading reviews from other sites.

@OP, Cooler Master GX, Extreme Series have a lot of issues but Cooler Master Silent Pro & Silent Pro Gold are one of the bests, most of the newly hardware are made of the Japanese Solid Capacitors.

You're right, 2 units built on the same platform but with different wattage ratings do differ, ever so slightly

My post was meant to explain the reason for the capacitor discrepancy on the box , the last paragragh of the HWS review does just that.

Thank you for your replies. I read both reviews that you suggested which were very useful. I also checked the Cooler Master's web sites to see how they advertise this PSU (i.e, with or without Japanese capacitors).

Interestingly it looks like the very same product (Silent Pro M700
RS-700-AMBA-D3) is advertised with Japanese capacitors all around the globe except in asian countries where web sites say nothing about the capacitors at all. It makes me suspect that it may be a political issue or a different OEM for this region. I am located in Turkey and one can discuss if Turkey is an Asian or European country for hours. So it shouldn't be surprising that one finds products of Asian and European origin in neighboring stores here.

I also want to note that in my unit, the silicone gasket silencer was not poorly glued as it is said in the Overclock3D review. In fact, in my unit they came separately in the box with some structure on them matching some holes on the PSU. I think they are supposed to be snapped in.

I decided to keep this PSU rather than returning it. Although the neighboring store sells the Japanese capacitor version, there seems to be no reason to believe that it is a better (or worse) one.
