Hello everybody!! I just finished building a brand new computer but I have one little issue. I am using a Coolermaster Cosmos 1000 case which has a microphone and headphone connection on the front panel. The connector for these is labeled "HD Audio" with another connector coming out which is labeled "AC'97". For my build, I used a Asus Maximus Formula motherboard which comes with a SupremeFX II audio card. I want to know where should I connect the HD audio connector to? I know that my motherboard had a undocumented ADH connector and the SupremeFX II audio card has a AAFP connector. Supposely the "HD audio" refers to the Azalia High Definition Audio(now called Intel HD Audio) and it seems logical to connect it to the ADH header but I have read from other forums that people have done this with a similar motherboard and ended up burning the connector. I really don't want to fry my motherboard especially after taking alot of time assembling and cable-managing the thing. I was wondering if anybody who also has a Cosmos 1000 with a Maximus Formula MB to be kind enough to tell me where they connected the front audio connector. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for replying. I have been through the Asus Maximus Formula MB manual many times and there is nothing that talks about the front audio connection. I would love to check the Asus SupremeFX II audio card manual but unfortunately, it is nonexistant since this card comes with the motherboard. I just would like to know if anybody who has a Cosmos case, hooked up the "HD Audio" connector to SupremeFX II card and nothing fried when the computer was turned on.

I have the same mobo with a stacker 832 case. I just finished building it and have not tested the front ports yet but I plugged it into the card and it didn't fry it

I have the Cosmos and the Maximus II, when I set it up the audio was terrible, lots of interference. Using the front panel the sound was perfect. There's two connectors on the audio card both facing the RAM sticks but only one fits the front panel connector either AC/97 or HD Audio.

Well i long lost the documentation for the mobo im ccurrently using M2N32-SLI DEULUX WIFI Edition i think it is, and its got this mystery ADH connector on it as well. I tested it to see if it would support a USB connection, since pin layout is the same.

Here is what the Multi Meter gave

Pin 1 Gnd
Pin 2 +4
Pin 3 -4
Pin 4 Var +- 0.2-1.2

The Osiliscope shows wave form patterns similer to that of USB but of much higher intensity, and with this high frequency short wave length sin wave from Pin 4 going through the the standard block patern from digital.

If it wernt for Pin 4 it would be a simple case of altering voltage settings on the software side and depending on the kind of mobo you have adding a resistor or 2 and you would have another USB socket to plug an internal USB device in to. (you know the kind im on about, those that bracket in to the back of the PC with your PCI's) but the track going to Pin 4 shows it comes from multiple points on the SB, NB, CPU, ASP, BSR and the RAM. These chips can not be alterd without million doller machinary that i dont have with me right now. (its all at the factory. Yes I Work for AMD building CPU's)

I would recomend you just leave it alone. I dont know what it stands for but im betting you guys got it right. Thos voltages are commonly used in High End Profeshonal Studio Quality Audio applications. So while it may work with some Audio Cards, most likley it will fry them.
