Coolermaster Cosmos or Stacker Series?

So I am building my first gaming rig in a month or so, and I am having trouble choosing which case to buy. I am torn between the Coolermaster Cosmos Series, or the Coolermaster Stacker Series. Looks mean nothing to me, I am only intrested in which has better cooling, and which is a better overall case. I plan on running at first a Zalman CNPS9700 heatsink fan, and dual EVGA 8800Gt Superclocked cards, and a large coolermaster 100watt power supply, and I will have no more than 3 hdd's, I will also be running a 45nm board and chip. Oh and a soundblaster X-fi card. Opinions and feedback are much appreciated. Thanks.

Oh and this will be a full time gaming rig, that will see overclocking, on air at first. And I want a full size ATX case, and no I will not be taking this to LAN parties, it will not move from the desk. Yes the room has good ventillation. Thanks.

I considered both for a long time until finally deciding on the antec p182... mostly for cost reasons, but I couldn't be happier.

If your set on coolermaster, then I would say the Stacker 832 is a good buy. You may only be able to use 3 of the 4 door fans due to large heatsinks, but that doesn't really compromise much cooling.

Hello bryan, i'm at the same situation!
I also considered the antec p182se seems to have a good cable managment features!
Other than that one, i like the Cosmos S (lots of room BUT no removable MB tray) and the Stacker 832...

I have read several reviews, that the Cosmos S looks pretty but is not near as good as the Cosmos 1000, and the 1010. I too was considering the Cosmos S until I read several negative reviews. I may have to flip a coin. I have read soooo many positive reviews about the Cosmos 1000, and the Stacker830/832 case. I just don't know what to do. I may flip a coin. They are both nice and I have had hands on at Fry's. Both look good, and are spacious. We'll have to wait and see.

I have the Stacker 832 and I can tell you it's a great case. My only complaint is the power button it feels cheap and with a case at this price point I would expect more but other than that it's perfect. I have seen reviews which indicate a cooling issue with the Cosmos so I would suggest looking into that before purchase. Beurling is correct in that with taller coolers you have to remove one of the side fans but there is still plenty of cooling. One thing I like in perticular is the fact that I have 2 GT's and the way they are designed the fan intake and outlets are positioned directly next to my two lower side fans so I have the fan toward the front of the case blowing in and the one toward the rear blowing out which is very effective at getting the hot GPU air out of the case.

One thing is on the front of the hard drive cage there are two punchouts which eliminate airflow from the front fan. I don't know why they are there but they are easy to remove just remove the fan from the hard drive cage and twist them and they come right off.

I would recommend the CoolerMaster Cosmos 1000. Mainly because it gives you a ton of upgradeability in the future and does a great job of keeping everything cooler. The pic on the side is a bit too small to really see... but I also added in an extra fan on the bottom right corner (not a normal mounting place) so that I could get better airflow through my hard drives (I have 4 of them) and it works like a charm. Their option HD fan takes up two of the drives bays... not something I wanted to do. I bought it so that it would have a long life... only issue is that it is heavy. It's solid... that comes with a price... weight!

I have this case and I don't see those punchouts - what do you mean?

The only downside to this case is the USB up top that inserts perpendicular to the ground. Holes that trap dust = bad juju.

If you remove the hard drive cage then remove the fan from it there are two large panels with some round holes in them directly behind the fan. You should twist these and pop them off to free up the airflow to the hard drives.

I agree about the USB's but I just have a few cans of compressed air and it does the trick.

Just look at my picture above and it will give you an idea of the size. The board in the picture is a P5N32-E SLI with 2 GT's. GTX=28.7cm GT=22.9cm so there is only a slight difference and still plenty of room.

Also Bryan the Zalman 9700 HSF will fit in my stacker 831 easily and with-out having to remove any side-door fans

Coolermaster Cosmos every time as it's storage capacity and superior cooling with up to five fans installed make it a superb case able to accomodate just about any system.

Avoid the slightly more expensive Cosmos S even though it looks classier in brushed Aluminium, it is that very tempremental touch sensitive power button on top. Many have had problems with it not working properly.

The one on the standard Cosmos has an equally impressive quality feel to it and is a proper button.

I struggled for months trying to figure which case to buy and saw my Cosmos for sale with a chap on ebay.

It was brand new but only cost me £80 but now having used it for over a year i wouldnot have worried if i had paid the full asking price.

Mine has the clear window option and whilst playing Crysis the front panel is easily removed providing ultimate cooling.

If you can afford it buy the Cosmos it's a wonderfull piece of kit and beautifully made.

You have to agree though the quality of manufacture justifies the high purchase price.

With all my toys installed my Cosmos weighs god knows what, must be atleast 50Kg or more as i can only just about lift it off the floor. It's the weight that reflects the quality of our purchase, not a sharp edge or poorly manufactured part.
