Hi everyone. I know that this question has been asked probably a million times.
However, I'm wondering about a solution I didn't read anywhere (that's why I think it is not a good idea to try it...)
So, the thing is I had to replace the internal fan of my laptop (an HP Pavilion dv6, 5 years old, but still working as a charm, except for this stuff), because the original fan died last week, and I was having (obviously) overheating issues.
The problem is that the replacement I bought seems to have some factory deficiency: when mounted on the motherboard, and put onto the laptop, the bearings of the new fan seem to fall just a bit out of place (probably less than half a millimeter). However, this is enough to touch a bit the casing of the fan, producing a horrible noise when spinning. The laptop is now running smoothly, except for that hideous noise.
I would ask for a new one on the store, arguing that the one they gave me is producing such noises, but I don't think it is worth the money to get there (the place is quite far from my house), and then waiting for a new shipment will be time consuming (time which I don't have right now).
So I came up with possible solutions:
a) Oiling the part that's touching the fan's case. However, I think that this won't solve anything (and probably I would get oil spread through the computer, and I don't want that).
b) Use something to polish the bearings just a bit, in order to prevent them from touching the case. It is plastic and it should not be that hard.
c) Unmounting the fan from the motor and see what I can do? :S
What do you guys think?
